Bot Identity

Give Guardy its own nickname, avatar, and banner in your server, without creating a second bot.

What it does

Premium servers can set a server-specific nickname (up to 32 characters), avatar, and profile banner for Guardy from Settings → Bot identity in the dashboard. There is no bot token, no Discord Developer Portal, and no second bot to invite. Discord shows the custom nickname and avatar in the member list and on Guardy's messages in your server, and the banner appears when a member opens Guardy's profile.

Discord always shows the APP badge on Guardy, and the profile keeps a View main profile link that shows Guardy's real identity. A custom identity changes how Guardy looks in your server; it does not hide that Guardy is a bot.

Set up in a minute

Open Settings → Bot identity in the Guardy dashboard for your server.
Enter a nickname (up to 32 characters), or upload an avatar and banner image.
Save. The dashboard shows the current status while Discord applies the change.
Check the member list and one of Guardy's messages to confirm the new nickname and avatar appear.

Custom status is not possible; Discord does not expose that field to server-specific identities.

Image rules

Formats: PNG, JPEG, or WebP, up to 8 MB, static images only (no animated avatars or banners).
Avatar: cropped to a square, 512×512.
Banner: cropped to a wide strip, 1360×480, with a minimum of 600×240.
Guardy re-encodes every uploaded image and removes hidden data before it reaches Discord.

Discord limits how often a bot's picture can change, so Guardy applies a new avatar or banner at most once every 10 minutes. A reset to Guardy's normal picture is immediate and does not count against that cooldown.

Name rules

Discord refuses names that imitate Discord itself, Discord staff or system messages, or other bots. If your saved identity breaks Discord's rules or impersonates someone, Guardy may reset that identity and remove your server's access to the feature.

If a moderator renames Guardy directly in Discord, the dashboard detects it and offers two choices: Apply again to restore your saved nickname, or Keep Discord's nickname to adopt what the moderator set as the new saved value.

Statuses and fixes

Applying — Guardy is saving the change to Discord. Wait a few seconds, then refresh.
Live — Discord is showing the custom name, avatar, and banner in this server.
Needs permission — Guardy's role does not currently allow changing its own nickname. Give Guardy's role Change Nickname or Manage Nicknames, then choose Check again.
Changed in Discord — A moderator renamed Guardy directly in Discord. Choose Apply again or Keep Discord's nickname.
Slowed down — Discord refused a picture change because it came too soon. Guardy tries again automatically at the time shown; you don't need to do anything.
Rejected — Discord refused the name or image, usually because it imitates Discord, Discord staff, system messages, or another bot. Choose different values and save again.
Paused by plan — Premium ended for this server, so Guardy is showing its normal name, picture, and banner here. Your saved settings are kept and return automatically once Premium is active again.
Bot not in server — Guardy is not currently in this Discord server, so the identity cannot be applied. Reinstall Guardy, then try again.

Reset

Choose Reset to Guardy to restore the normal name, picture, and banner in that server and delete the saved images. Reset works on every plan, including Free.

Downgrade

If Premium ends, Guardy goes back to its normal name, picture, and banner in that server. Your saved settings are kept and come back automatically the next time Premium is active for that server; you do not need to re-enter them.

Free servers can open Settings → Bot identity to preview the feature, with a link to see current plans.

FAQ

Do I need a bot token or my own Discord application?

No. Bot identity works entirely from the Guardy dashboard. You never create a Discord application, generate a bot token, or use the Developer Portal.

Will members in other servers see the new name and avatar?

No. The nickname, avatar, and banner only apply in the server where you set them. Every other server, and Guardy's DMs, still show the standard Guardy identity.

Why can't I change the avatar again right away?

Discord limits how often a bot's picture can change, so Guardy applies a new picture at most once every 10 minutes and retries automatically if Discord asks it to wait. A reset back to Guardy's normal picture is immediate.

Why was my name or image rejected?

Discord refuses names and images that imitate Discord, Discord staff or system messages, or other bots. Choose different values that clearly represent your server's own branding.

What happens if I downgrade from Premium?

Guardy returns to its normal name, picture, and banner in that server. Nothing is deleted; your saved identity comes back automatically if Premium becomes active again.

Does resetting delete my saved images?

Yes. Reset to Guardy deletes the saved images along with restoring the normal identity. Reset is available on every plan.
