YouTube & Twitch Alerts

Post a Discord alert when a YouTube channel publishes a public video or a Twitch creator starts a stream. Guardy verifies the creator before saving and does not ask you to connect a personal Google or Twitch account.

What Guardy watches

One alert source connects one public creator to one Discord destination.

• YouTube alerts cover newly published public videos, including Shorts. They do not cover scheduled livestream announcements or the moment a YouTube livestream starts. A livestream that later becomes an archive does not turn into a delayed new-video alert.
• Twitch alerts cover an ordinary stream going online. Guardy does not post an offline message, title or category changes, reruns, or viewer-count updates.

Free runs two active sources total across YouTube and Twitch. Premium includes up to 100 configured sources. Paused and unhealthy sources still count toward the applicable plan limit because their settings are retained. After a downgrade, extra Premium setups remain visible but inactive; they do not become additional active Free sources.

Add your first creator

1. Open YouTube & Twitch Alerts in the Guardy dashboard and choose Add creator.
2. Select YouTube or Twitch.
3. Paste a supported public channel URL or handle, then choose Find creator.
4. Check the resolved name, handle, avatar, provider, and external link before continuing.
5. Select a Discord destination or create one without leaving the setup page.
6. Review the safe Discord-style preview. Guardy uses a provider-coloured card, creator identity, a large video or stream image, a direct title link and a clean provider footer. Twitch also shows the current category when available. The actual title, image, category and link come from the provider when Guardy sends an alert.
7. Optionally open Advanced to add a short introduction or choose one mentionable server role.
8. Choose Save creator alert.

Changing the provider or creator input after resolution makes the preview stale. Find the creator again before saving so the stored identity always matches what you reviewed. When editing a saved alert, the provider and creator are intentionally read-only. Create a new alert if you want to watch a different creator; this prevents a preview from implying that an existing source changed when only its delivery settings were saved.

Supported creator inputs

For YouTube, use an @handle, a youtube.com/@handle URL, a youtube.com/channel/UC... URL, a raw channel ID, or a legacy youtube.com/user/... URL. Video, playlist, and unknown custom URLs are rejected.

For Twitch, use the creator's login or a twitch.tv/login URL. Guardy never opens an arbitrary pasted URL. It parses supported forms and resolves the identity through the provider.

Discord destination and permissions

Guardy checks the selected destination for:

• View Channel
• Send Messages
• Embed Links
• Read Message History

Read Message History lets Guardy perform its bounded duplicate-recovery check after an ambiguous Discord response. Guardy requires it for creator-alert destinations rather than silently reducing recovery safety.

Guardy does not need Manage Webhooks for creator alerts.

Safe role mentions

Alerts do not ping anyone by default. You may select one current, mentionable server role for a source. Guardy checks that role again at delivery time and allows only that exact role mention. If the role was deleted or is no longer mentionable, Guardy sends the alert without a ping.

@everyone, @here, user mentions, and mentions hidden inside custom text are never enabled. Discord members can also control whether a role mention produces a device notification.

Status and repair

• Waiting for first alert means setup is complete but no qualifying provider event has been delivered yet.
• Active means the source and destination are healthy.
• Paused means an administrator stopped that source.
• Paused by plan means a downgrade left the saved source outside the active Free pair.
• Needs destination means the channel disappeared or Guardy can no longer use it.
• Needs permission means the channel still exists but Guardy is missing one of the four required destination permissions.
• Creator unavailable means the provider repeatedly confirms that the creator is removed, private, banned, or otherwise inaccessible.
• Provider delayed means YouTube, Twitch, Guardy's provider credential, or callback processing is temporarily unavailable. The source stays saved.
• Provider status unknown means Guardy has not recently completed a provider check. The source stays saved while Guardy retries; this is not shown as healthy until a fresh check succeeds.

Use the repair action shown beside the affected source. Guardy does not silently choose another channel or delete your configuration.

Guardy also keeps application-wide provider capacity in reserve. If setup says YouTube or Twitch alert capacity is temporarily full, the source was not saved; retry later rather than creating duplicate definitions.

Delivery and recovery limits

Provider callbacks can be repeated, delayed, or unavailable. Guardy stores provider event identifiers and content-free delivery state so duplicate callbacks and normal retries converge on one Discord alert. It also periodically reconciles YouTube's official uploads playlist independently of its notification feed, plus currently live Twitch streams.

This recovery is bounded. YouTube does not document an actual live-start callback, and Twitch does not provide arbitrary event replay after a complete outage. A very short Twitch stream that starts and ends during a full provider outage can be missed. Guardy shows a delay or repair state rather than claiming that every provider event is guaranteed.

Removing or changing access

Removing a source stops future alerts. Discord messages already posted remain in the destination. Turning the whole module off stops new deliveries while preserving the source definitions.

After a downgrade, Guardy keeps every source but runs only the selected two Free sources. Upgrading does not silently resume paused sources. Review them and resume the ones you still want.

Privacy and provider terms

Guardy stores the provider creator ID, refreshed public identity fields, Discord destination and optional role IDs, event identifiers, delivery status, and timestamps needed to operate and repair alerts. It does not store video descriptions, stream descriptions, viewer counts, Discord message content, or member-level alert analytics. Public YouTube API data is refreshed or deleted within 30 days.
