Custom Commands
Give members a quick answer with a slash command of your own, such as /rules or /faq. Replies can include their name, a short answer they enter, and details about your server.
Free includes 20 custom commands, with text or embed replies, variables, one optional member input and private replies. Premium adds matching replies, random replies and a role action. See Plans and access for command limits.
Create a useful command
- Open Custom Commands for your server in the dashboard and choose New command.
- Give it a name and choose a starter or Blank. Use up to 32 lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens or underscores. Names already used by Guardy are reserved.
- Review the Discord description and write a plain-text reply or an embed. New commands start paused, so you can finish the reply before members use it.
- Leave Who can run it empty for everyone, or pick the roles allowed to use it. A member cooldown of zero means no cooldown.
- Check the preview, enable the command and save. Wait for the dashboard to confirm it is live in Discord, then try it in a member channel.
You can switch between text and embed while editing without losing either unsaved draft. Reset restores the last saved command.
Ask for a short input
Turn on Ask for an input to add one named text input of up to 200 characters. Give it a name such as topic and a description that tells members what to enter. Use Members must enter a value to make it required; switch that off to let members leave it blank.
An input name starts with a lowercase letter from a to z, followed by lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens or underscores, up to 32 characters. For example, a command named faq with an input named topic appears as /faq topic:rules.
Include {input} in the reply to show the member's answer. An optional input that was left blank adds no text.
Reply privately
Turn on Only the member can see the reply when the answer should be visible only to the person running the command. Replies are public by default. This setting is available on Free, for both text and embed replies.
Variables you can use
Use these exact variables in reply text or embed text fields. The preview shows an example with the variables filled in.

For example, Hi {display_name}! You asked about {input}. includes the member's display name and answer. Reply counters allow room for the variables to expand before the message reaches Discord.
Premium reply options
Match the member's input
Add up to 10 matching replies to a plain-text command with an input. Each reply needs a value to match and the answer to send. Matches use the whole input, ignoring capitalization and spaces at the beginning or end. For example, RULES and rules both match rules.
When nothing matches, Guardy sends your Default reply. Use it to explain the accepted answers, such as "Try rules or events."
Pick a random reply
Add up to 5 additional random replies. Each use picks from your main reply and those alternatives. Matching replies and random replies both use plain text, and you choose one of these two modes per command.
Give the member a role
Optionally choose one cosmetic role under Give the member a role. Guardy needs Manage Roles, and its highest role must be above that role. Administrator, moderator, verification and temporary birthday roles cannot be given by a custom command.
With matching replies, only a matching reply gives the role. The default reply never gives it. Without matching replies, the role action applies whenever the member successfully runs the command. Command roles do not expire automatically.
If Premium access ends, commands using any matching reply, random reply or role action pause and keep their saved settings. Remove all three Premium options to run the command on Free, or restore Premium access. Basic commands keep working.
If a command does not work
- Check that both the Custom Commands module and the individual command are on, and that your member has an allowed role.
- Check the publication status. If Discord refused an update, use Retry after fixing the issue shown.
- If Guardy says a command has changed, reopen Discord's slash-command picker and select its current options.
- If a command needs Premium, remove its Premium options or restore access.
- An older custom
/birthdaymust be renamed before it can be enabled again. That name now belongs to Guardy's Birthdays commands.
