Suggestions

Use Suggestions to collect ideas in a normal Discord forum. Members post the way they always do. Guardy adds vote buttons to every new post, gives staff a private card to decide on, tags the post with what happens next, and tells the author.

Set it up

  1. Open Suggestions in the Guardy dashboard and choose Set up Suggestions.
  2. Pick the forum members post ideas in, or let Guardy create one. Guardy adds five moderator-only tags to it: Open, Under review, Approved, Implemented and Declined.
  3. Tick the roles your staff have. Anyone with Manage Server can always decide; the roles you tick can too.
  4. Pick a private staff channel, or let Guardy create one only administrators and those roles can see.
  5. Choose Set up and turn on. The next new post in the forum gets Guardy's vote card.

You can also ask Guardy in chat: "set up suggestions in our ideas forum". Guardy drafts the same setup for you to approve.

Posts that were in the forum before setup are left alone. Suggestions is free on every plan.

How members use it

A member creates a post in the forum. Guardy tags it Open and replies with a vote card: 👍 and 👎 buttons with live counts. Each member has one vote and can click again to take it back or switch sides. Nobody can vote on their own idea. The conversation happens in the post itself, as with any forum.

How staff decide

Each new idea gets a card in the staff channel with the decision buttons and a thread to talk it over out of members' sight. Choosing a state opens a short form for the reason members will see. A reason is required to decline and optional otherwise.

The Suggestions page in the dashboard lists every idea, most votes first, with a filter per state. Open one to decide there; the post in Discord updates within a few seconds.

Implemented and Declined close voting. The discussion in the post stays open, and staff can move an idea back with Reopen.

How the author hears back

When the state changes, Guardy sends the author a direct message with the new state and the reason. If their direct messages are closed, Guardy mentions them in their own post instead. The idea's page in the dashboard shows which way they were told.

When something is missing

If the forum or staff channel is deleted, or Guardy loses a permission there, the dashboard says so and asks you to pick another channel in Settings. Guardy needs View Channel, Send Messages in Threads, Embed Links, Read Message History, Manage Threads and Manage Channels in the forum, and Send Messages, Embed Links and Create Public Threads in the staff channel. Guardy retries a post it could not update.

Privacy

Guardy stores the post's title, its state and reason, which staff member decided, the Discord ids of Guardy's own cards, and each member's vote. The idea itself stays in Discord, where its author can edit or delete it. Deleting the post removes the suggestion and its votes. A member's data request includes their ideas and votes. Read Privacy and data rights for the full boundary.
