Birthdays
Celebrate members who choose to share their birthday. Guardy posts a greeting in your chosen channel and can give them a birthday role for the rest of their day. Birthdays is free on every plan.
Members share a month, day and timezone. There is no birth-year or age field. Birthdays starts off until you turn it on.
Set up celebrations
- Open Birthdays for your server in the dashboard.
- Choose a Celebration channel. Use a text or announcement channel where Guardy has View Channel and Send Messages.
- Choose a Celebration time, or keep the default 09:00. This is the time in each member's saved timezone.
- Optionally choose a Birthday role, then save. You can leave it set to No birthday role.
- Turn Birthdays on and invite members to use
/birthday setin Discord.
You can save settings while the module is off. A celebration channel and an enabled module are required before members can add or correct their birthday.
How members use it
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/birthday set | Saves or corrects your month and day. Optionally choose a timezone from the suggestions, such as Europe/Amsterdam. |
/birthday view | Shows your saved birthday and timezone for this server. |
/birthday remove | Removes your birthday from this server and opts you out of future celebrations. |
Only you see these command replies. The confirmation after saving shows your next celebration date and time. The birthday greeting itself is public in the server's chosen channel and mentions you.
/birthday view and /birthday remove also work while Birthdays is off. If you already received a birthday role, removing your birthday leaves that role in place until its scheduled expiry at local midnight.
Timezones and the next celebration
If a member leaves the timezone blank, Guardy saves the server timezone with their birthday. Changing the server timezone later does not change that saved choice. Use /birthday set again to update it.
The celebration time is local to each member. For example, a setting of 09:00 celebrates someone using Europe/Amsterdam at 09:00 there, and someone using America/New_York at 09:00 there.
- Adding today's birthday: save before the configured celebration time in your timezone to be included today. At or after that time, your next celebration is next year.
- February 29: Guardy celebrates it on February 28 in non-leap years.
- Missed days: turning Birthdays back on does not post greetings for birthdays on past days.
The optional birthday role
Choose a cosmetic role used only for birthdays, below Guardy's highest role in Discord. Guardy needs Manage Roles to give and remove it. The dashboard explains why an unavailable role cannot be selected.
The role is given with the birthday greeting and expires at the next midnight in that member's saved timezone. If they already had the role, Guardy leaves their existing role alone.
Check or pause celebrations
The dashboard shows how many members have joined in and whether any announcements could not be confirmed. It does not list members' saved dates.
If a celebration needs attention, check the channel, role and Guardy's permissions. An unconfirmed announcement is not automatically posted again, to avoid sending a duplicate greeting.
Turn Birthdays off to pause announcements while keeping the settings and saved birthdays. Members can still view or remove their own birthday. For help with Discord permissions, see troubleshooting.
